Fish Eye View
Check out the underwater inhabitants of Lake Wakatipu. Diving ducks, massive trout and slinky eels mix and mingle just metres from the lakeshore.
Conveniently located on the Main Town Pier at the lake end of the Mall, Underwater Observatory offers fascinating and informative entertainment for all ages in all weather. Informative story boards tell the Maori mythological history of the lake and the 40 year history of Kawarau Jet while feeding the fish offers excitement for the fish as well as the viewers.

Two species of trout are on display – the Brown imported from Europe around 100 years ago and the Rainbow, a North American import. Scaup Ducks (also known as Black Teal) dive among the fish for food while the New Zealand Long Finned Eel gliding through the water could live up to 90 years and weigh up to 16 kilos (35lbs).
Back on the wharf is a great place to relax and view the coming and going of the jetboats.
At NZD3.00 per child, NZD5.00 per adult or NZD10.00 per family, Underwater Observatory is possibly the best value attraction available in Queenstown. Entry is free to all Kawarau Jet passengers. Open daily from 8.30am till dusk.
